Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer has reportedly met with executives at Hulu with a view to buying the online video service.
AllthingsD reports that Yahoo is “in the process” although has not made a formal bid for Hulu, citing several sources close to the matter. A purchase would, however, make a lot of sense: Yahoo’s recent attempt to buy Dailymotion was stymied by the French government, while News Corp and Disney, who each control a third of Hulu, are said to have been exploring a sell off for months. Last month, for example, former News Corp president Peter Chernin apparently bid $500m for Hulu.
Coincidentally, Mayer outlined the importance of video for Yahoo at a Wired conference yesterday. “I think video is really important … video is something that we’re all innately designed and born to experience, everyone is born being able to watch and to hear,” she said. “Video is just this amazing format.”
